The spectacular transformation and expansion of Hurricane Hole Superyacht Marina, scheduled to welcome yachts for the 2022 winter yachting season, celebrated another major construction milestone with the installation of 2,580 feet of deep-water floating docks.
Stretching almost half a mile along the marina’s promenade, the 10’ x10’ deep-water floating docks, custom manufactured in Jacksonville by Bellingham Marine, are designed and built to handle tidal changes and provide optimal flexibility for superyachts, sportfishing boats and smaller craft by adjusting to water levels and providing consistent access to vessels. During hurricanes, the flexibility of floating docks reduces the likelihood of damage, compared to the storm-related vulnerability of stationary docks.
“Building a marina involves many factors broadly related to water levels, safety, access and the environment,” said David Kosoy, Executive Chairman & Founder of Sterling Global Financial, the project’s developer, manager and owner. “These crucial considerations came into play as we worked with Bellingham, other local partners, and the Bahamian Government on creating the ideal components for Hurricane Hole.”
Deep Water and Ease of Navigation
The Bahamas-based construction team skillfully dredged the basin to a depth of 14.5 feet from average low tide, making it one of the deepest marinas in the Caribbean. The redesigned marina will also feature a 240-foot-wide turning basin, ideal for navigating larger superyachts.
Bigger and Deeper Haven for Superyachts
By carefully removing the marina’s original barrier sea wall, crews were able to dredge inland and dramatically extend the marina’s circumference to more than 6,100 linear feet. Outfitted to the highest standards in quality and design, the totally rebuilt Hurricane Hole Superyacht Marina at Paradise Landing features docks up to 420 feet. Specifically engineered metal and concrete sea walls have been installed to eliminate currents and reduce wave action and potential storm surge.
“We expect it will not take long for Hurricane Hole Superyacht Marina to become the most desirable berth in the Caribbean,” said Philip Robinson, Vice President of Development at Sterling Global Financial. “On the water and on land, this marina and village are built to the highest standards of comfort, convenience and safety.”
